SUMMARY:Solar for Your Congregation: Claim Up to 40% in Federal Funding
DESCRIPTION:Online Webinar | Monday\, September 22 | 7:00 PM \nMany people don’t realize that houses of worship can still qualify for the federal “direct pay” rebate\, which sends your house of worship a check for up to 40% of the cost of solar panels. But you have to act fast: this incentive ends in 2027. \nJoin MassIPL for a free online webinar to learn about this opportunity and how your congregation can take advantage of it before time runs out. \nWhat you’ll learn \n\nHow the direct pay benefit works\nThe key steps to take to claim it\nA set of milestones to keep your project on track\nAn introduction to MassIPL’s newest solar partner\, New England Clean Energy\n\nA bonus for every registrant \nNew England Clean Energy will provide a preliminary evaluation of your building’s solar potential\, including ballpark costs and how much electricity panels may provide\, to help start the conversation in your congregation. \nMassIPL has helped more than 60 houses of worship install solar panels. If yours has ever considered going solar\, join us so you don’t miss the chance to claim this generous incentive. \nPresenters \n\nAlan Sherman\, Solar Leader\, MassIPL\nDavid Kleinschmidt\, Commercial Solar Design Consultant\, New England Clean Energy

SUMMARY:Fusion’s Promise: A Limitless Carbon-Free Energy Source
DESCRIPTION:Join MetroWest Climate Solutions for a discussion with Jessica Strunkin\, Community Relations and Local Government Affairs Principal at Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS). To register for this free webinar\, visit metrowestclimatesolutions.org. \nThis talk will describe fusion energy and how the same process that powers the stars can be harnessed on Earth as the ideal source of carbon-free energy. A giant leap forward on the path to commercial fusion energy occurred in 2021 when CFS and MIT demonstrated the world’s strongest superconducting magnet at the scale required for fusion power plant systems. This new magnet technology opened up the possibility of developing fusion power plants at a size that can commercially scale. \nFollowing this success\, CFS rapidly built a magnet factory in Devens\, Mass. and is using its first production magnets to build a prototype fusion machine\, called SPARC®\, to demonstrate net energy and the technology’s commercial viability. In parallel\, site planning activities are underway at the Fall Line Fusion Power Station in Chesterfield County\, Va.\, where fusion will be harnessed to provide 400 MWe of carbon-free energy starting in the early 2030s. \nIn July 2026\, CFS announced a $1 billion capital raise – the single largest funding round among fusion energy companies worldwide since CFS announced its $1.8 billion Series B round in 2021. To date\, CFS has raised $4 billion\, representing about 30% of the total capital raised by the fusion industry. \nOur Speaker: Jessica Strunkin joined CFS in her current role in 2023. She leads engagement with local communities and stakeholders to broaden awareness of fusion energy and to highlight the economic impact of CFS on the region. She regularly interacts with local officials\, business leaders\, educators\, and neighbors\, organizing quarterly community events at CFS’ headquarters for public education and interaction with the CFS team. She was part of the site search team for the first ARC™ Power Plant. \nSPARC® and ARC™ are trademarks of Commonwealth Fusion Systems®. \nPhoto credit: Commonwealth Fusion Systems \n

SUMMARY:Webinar on Energy Storage in Massachusetts
DESCRIPTION:Can you join us on October 27th at 6pm for a webinar to learn about Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in Massachusetts?\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDespite federal headwinds\, Massachusetts has been making progress on adding renewable energy to our grid. Residential and utility scale solar installations continue to rise\, and in April\, Gov. Healey activated a contract with the newly fully operational Vineyard Wind offshore wind project\, saving ratepayers $1.4 billion over the next 20 years. \nAs we reach a 100% renewable energy grid\, what happens when the sun stops shining and the wind stops blowing? That’s where energy storage comes in. Energy storage can store cheap excess energy from times when the sun is bright and the wind is fierce and discharge that energy during peak times when we need it the most \nOn October 27 at 6pm\, we’re hosting a webinar about one type of utility scale energy storage: Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) that are popping up across the Commonwealth. We’ll talk about some of the benefits of having BESS on our grid\, ways that communities can benefit from good siting and host community agreements\, and some of the safety conversations we’ve heard popping up.
